Project Manager

Focus

The Project Manager oversees all phases of construction from receiving and sorting subtrade quotes to organizing and managing subcontractors, materials, inspections and all administrative aspects needed to successfully complete a project. The Project Manager

will ensure that work is performed correctly, cost effectively, smoothly and in line with all safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Review and confirm subcontractor quotes
    and scopes.
  • Secure subcontractor.
  • Review drawings for accuracy and constructability and create project schedule.
  • Meet with consultants and owners to review
    and answer any questions regarding the scope of work.
  • Assist in weekly work plans.
  • Get permits for project and any other
    certificates, inspections and/or reports needed.
  • Set project goals and milestones and communicate them to the rest of the project
    team.
  • Manage schedule on an ongoing basis to ensure project is completed within the set
    timeframe.
  • Order materials, issue subtrade contracts and hire any services necessary to start and complete the project within schedule.
  • Manage project accounting and project log.
  • Keep a detail record of all communication and correspondence involved in the project.
  • Attend site visits to verify scope of work, assess quality and safety and review
    project’s progress.
  • Process subtrade and owner change orders efficiently and quote changes beyond
    original scope of work for approval.
  • Communicate all relevant changes to project team
  • Ensure all safety concerns and incidents are immediately taken care of.
  • Oversee and initiate final inspections, deficiencies and warranties as appropriate.
  • Perform final walkthrough with owner and mark down any deficiencies.
  • When necessary, work to resolve issues arising from work procedures, complaints,
    misunderstandings, etc.
  • Initiate and carry out regular one-on-ones with each individual within the project team.
  • Delegate tasks to team members based on their abilities to ensure project gets
    successfully completed.
  • Provide weekly updates to General Manager.
  • Perform Project Manager duties at multiple job sites, simultaneously.
  • Ensure that subcontractors are fully executing and complying with their
    contracted scope of work.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 10+ years of construction trade experience.
  • 5+ years as a Construction Management or Project Management
  • Degree or diploma in Project/Construction Management, or a related field of study; Red Seal designation preferred
  • Previous experience in and excellent knowledge of the construction industry, construction methods and building codes is required.
  • Knowledge of acceptable construction site practices including safety and health regulations.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

SKILLS

  • Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, Dropbox and OneNote
  • Ability to read drawings.
  • Excellent organizational, time-management and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Experienced Carpenter

BMF Builders is currently looking to hire Experienced Carpenters with strong residential and (preferably) timberframe construction backgrounds, to work in Manitoba and Ontario’s Cottage Country.

Hours are based on a minimum 40 hours per week with possible overtime

and an opportunity for health benefits after completion of 3 months’ probation. Wages vary depending on the contract, location, experience, attitude and workmanship.

Experience Required:

  • Must obtain a minimum of level 3 certificate in the Manitoba carpentry apprenticeship program or 8 years experience of carpentry
  • Experience in multiple facets of construction as we build start to finish and also renovation work
  • Works with the Project Manager to understand and communicate tasks and procedures
  • General construction knowledge with good multi trade skills; knowledge and abilities in all areas of residential construction; new home, interior and exterior renovation is essential
  • High-quality carpentry skills
  • Ability and knowledge to work with sub-trades
  • Understanding of construction terms, scheduling, and planning concepts
  • Organizational, time and workload management skills
  • Effective communication, customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Skilled Construction Labourers

Job Responsibilities

  • Follow all safety procedures
  • Maintain a safe and clean job site by
handling materials and storing them properly, picking up and removing all tools and equipment when not in use, and securing the job site on a daily basis.
  • Travel out of town to work on remote job sites as directed by management.
  •  

    As a Skilled Labourer, your duties may include:

     

    • Loading and unloading construction materials, and moving them to work areas
    • Operate hand tools and power tools as required such as cutting lumber, air nailing etc.
    • Installing and removing concrete forms, scaffolding, etc. at construction sites
    • Assisting in demolishing buildings
    • Removing rubble and other debris at construction sites

     

     

    Work Conditions

    • As with many careers in construction, there are peak periods that will require you to work overtime. The number of additional hours you work each week depends on the construction sector and region you work in, and will vary from one job to the next.
    • You will generally work outdoors on construction sites in conjunction with other construction professionals. You may have to lift heavy equipment and materials or work with power tools.

     

    Job Skills & Qualifications-Required:

     

    • Arrive to work on time and ready for work day
    • Valid driver’s license
    • 2 years of experience in the industry (if you have a genuine willingness to learn with less experience, please apply!)
